Dr. N. Raghuram is currently Reader in the School of
Biotechnology, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi; where he
achieved the Best Teacher Award in 2004. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from
Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. His areas of specialization are
plant molecular biology and functional genomics, with particular reference
to plant signal transduction, nitrate responsive gene expression and
metabolic regulation. His main focus is to characterize the molecular
basis of nitrate responsive gene expression and nitrogen use efficiency in
rice and Arabidopsis, using a combination of biochemical, molecular
biological, pharmacological, genetic, genomic and bioinformatics
approaches. His lab has also established Spirulina, a non-nitrogen fixing,
nitrate-assimilating autotrophic cyanobacterium, as a microbial model
system to study its nitrate-assimilation, N use efficiency and protein
content. Besides writing books, he has over 25 research articles, reviews
and commentaries published in journals of national and international
repute. He is an Editor of “Physiology and Molecular Biology of Plants”,
an international journal of functional plant biology.
